The Elisenlebkuchen ingredients list
What makes or breaks a Lebkuchen? Its spices! The characteristic spice mixture of our Elisen consists of cinnamon, carnations, cardamom, nutmeg, mace and allspice. This special spice composition does not only create the typical Elisen taste but also a number of other benefits. This makes Elisen probably the superfood among Christmas biscuits – so enjoy!
Hazelnuts and almonds
are a source of important and good unsaturated fats for us. Fun fact: Botanically speaking, nuts are actually considered fruits.
Cinnamon
probably the most important Lebkuchen spice. Not only is it an absolute must-have for almost every Christmas cookie, but it's also a life hack: it can even prevent bad breath and smelly feet.
Carnations
contain many antioxidants and can therefore be a natural anti-aging elexir. They also have special meaning in many cultures and represent different emotions depending on the color: red carnations, for example, express love and affection.
Ginger
the ultimate superfood! We mostly know it as a home remedy for colds or as a remedy for nausea. But did you know that ginger can be a real mood enhancer? The essential oils it contains, which are responsible for its slightly sharper taste, are translated by our brain into pain, which results in the release of the body's own morphine, which in turn ensures a pleasant state of happiness.
Cardamom
is also a true all-rounder providing many health benefits. It's one of the most expensive spices in the world, along with saffron and vanilla. In addition, it is often used in Arabic countries as an additive to coffee to make it more digestible.
Nutmeg
Its name is misleading, because it is actually not a nut, but a seed. A pinch is enough for a sweet, spicy and slightly resinous note.
Pimento
Who needs four spices when you can cover everything with one? Allspice aka pimento, also known as spice seeds or allspice, combines several flavors at once and is reminiscent of a mixture of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper (“four spice”). It can have a soothing effect on stress and nervousness.
