Bean to Bar Chocolate
Our special edition with Rosa Canina combines melt-in-the-mouth single origin chocolate from Nicaragua with moist Elisen gingerbread. The fair trade cocoa beans stand for quality, traceability and sustainable cultivation – with delicate notes of cocoa, cinnamon and nuts, complementing the festive Elisen spice blend.

Partner in Craft: Rosa Canina
In  a small factory in Berlin-Mitte, chocolate is created that is more than just sweet: it tells a story of craftsmanship, dedication and attention to detail. At Rosa Canina, they negotiate directly with the farmers, import, roast, grind and pour – all by hand and with a great deal of patience. The result is a chocolate full of character with lively, natural flavours.

Q&A

It really does all start with the bean. Rosa Canina produces its own chocolate – from roasting to the finished bar (bean to bar).

Bean to bar means that the chocolate is produced in-house – from the cocoa bean to the finished bar. The cocoa comes directly from selected farms (direct trade), with no middlemen. This results in better financial conditions and a flavour that truly reflects its origin.

Our Elisenlebkuchen will be soft and juicy for at least 4 months from the time of production, which is the “best before” date printed on the tin/foil. However, we have tasted the Elisen we kept unopened in the foil, and found they were still soft and delicious long after this date! You'll also find some tips on how to get hard Elisenlebkuchen soft again in our Journal.

Yes, all of our Lebkuchen are vegan. Unlike conventional Elisenlebkuchen, we do not use eggs or honey for our vegan Lebkuchen.

Every Elisenlebkuchen tin contains 5 Lebkuchen – that's 390 grams of original Elisenlebkuchen. Others of our sorts of Lebkuchen may vary in weight, but feel free to check out other offers and compare!

Even though our foils are compostable and certified as such, the Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt) stipulates that all plastic packaging must be disposed of in the yellow bin or yellow bag. This also applies to bio-based plastic packaging. Under no circumstances should it be placed in the organic waste bin.

Everything you need to know about Pfeffer & Frost Elisenlebkuchen

Monastery recipe 2.0:

Our organic Elisenlebkuchen are full of good hazelnuts and almonds, but do not contain the classic honey and egg whites – so they are 100% vegan.

Let's talk trash:

Our tin is reusable and made of recyclable paper. The foil that keeps our Lebkuchen fresh and juicy is made from cellulose and corn starch and industrially compostable. More trash talk?

Long live the craftsmanship:

Our bakery is a classic manufactury, family-run and organic-certified.

Fresh start every week:

Starting in October, our hard-working bakers will start the kneading machines and ovens every Monday. Your order will be freshly baked so you can enjoy juicy Elisen.
