Advent season in Dresden
For Elli, the highlight of each Advent season is a visit to the Christmas market in Dresden (called Striezelmarkt) to enjoy some Kreppelchen (deep fried sweet dumplings) and a cup of punch or mulled wine with her family. Master chef Stefan Hermann is known to have the tastiest recipe!
This fruity punch is made from quinces and apples mostly from the Dresden region. Many owners of orchards and private gardens who have been cultivating heritage varieties for decades, bring their harvest to the press house in autumn, where it is mixed with natural spices to make the delicious apple and quince punch. Only in years when the apple harvest is low, additional fruit is purchased from the nearby Saxony-Anhalt region.
The punch is vegan, vegetarian and lactose-free and will keep for about 2 years.
